Easy drinking like Sunday morning

Bag of coffee beans. Labels state “Whole Bean”, “Santa Maria” “Antigua Guatemala” includes tasting notes and roast date of the coffee.

Jack and the Beans are a relatively new (2019) coffee roaster, based in Pembrokeshire in Wales. They were brought to my attention via Instagram, and I was intrigued by their Colombian coffee, though there will be a review of that at a later date.

I recently bought more coffee from them, including a taster pack of their main range. There will be reviews for all of them, though full disclosure, I bought these coffees myself and am not being paid commission!

Santa Maria then. Beans from Antigua, Guatemala.

Tasting notes on the bag are: Milk chocolate, Almond Brittle, and Strawberry.

Looked like a medium rather than a dark roast, evidenced in part by the effort grinding manually, though it was not too difficult in fairness.

A wonderful nuttiness from the bag, and this one comes across gently as an espresso, almost playful. A light fruitiness with a slight nutty chocolate holding it in its arms. This coffee is like looking at pictures of cute kittens on the internet.

Certainly enjoyable, but perhaps might be even better as a filter brew. As I got this as part of a taster pack I don’t have a massive amount to play with and really explore the coffee, but I’m certainly intrigued by it as a potentially wonderful Sunday afternoon brew. 54g is more than enough for several brews though, and I like the aesthetic of the smaller bags.

Definitely recommended for those of you who don’t want a darker roast, or a bitter, overdone brew from an industry titan I won’t name.

While I feel I can get more out of this coffee, it certainly put a smile on my face!
